Everything you need to make your next move
Quick answers about coaching, game reviews, voice credits, and the chess data you bring to Cody.
Cody is a web-based AI chess coach that follows your board and explains chess in plain language. You can play with Cody beside you, ask questions about any position, and review games you already played.
An engine tells you the strongest move and an evaluation number. Cody uses engine analysis under the hood, then turns it into a conversation about plans, threats, and the ideas behind the moves, so the lesson carries over to your next game.
Videos teach positions from someone else's games. Cody coaches you on your own games and positions and answers the exact question you have, at the moment you have it.
Anyone from complete beginner to strong club player. You tell Cody your level and it adjusts its vocabulary and depth, from explaining how the pieces move to discussing concrete calculation with experienced players.
Yes. At beginner levels Cody explains rules and basic chess vocabulary whenever they come up, and never assumes knowledge you don't have yet.
A strong chess engine evaluates the positions, and an AI coach translates that analysis into plans and ideas you can actually use. The board in front of you is always the shared point of reference.
No. Cody runs in your web browser on desktop, tablet, and phone. Open the site and your coach is ready — there is nothing to install.
No. Cody is a training tool for studying, practicing, and reviewing finished games. Using any outside assistance during rated online games breaks platform rules, so keep Cody for before and after those games.

Choose Start learning and follow the short setup. You can try Cody from the live board, then sign in to save chats, connect chess accounts, and review imported games.
Yes. You choose your level when you set up your coach, and Cody matches its explanations to it — first-steps vocabulary for new players, concrete lines and nuance for experienced ones.

The opening book lets you browse opening families and explore their repertoire maps move by move. You can ask Cody about any line while you explore it, so names turn into ideas you understand.
Cody gives you tactics to solve with your coach beside the board. If you get stuck, you can ask for a nudge in the right direction instead of being shown the full answer.
Yes. Navigate to any position on the board and ask about it by text or voice. Cody follows the position in front of you, so the conversation always matches what you see.
Start a voice session and talk with Cody like you would with a coach at the table. Cody sees the board, hears your question, and answers out loud while pointing at squares with arrows and highlights.
No. You can learn entirely through text coaching, which stays free. Live voice is there when you want a more natural conversation beside the board.
A device with a microphone and a recent browser. Allow microphone access when your browser asks, and you're ready to talk.
Yes. Cody has several voices with different characters, so you can pick the one you enjoy listening to during longer sessions.
Club uses an efficient realtime voice built for regular training. Master uses the flagship realtime voice — the most natural one available — and falls back to the efficient voice when needed.

You can paste a public Chess.com or Lichess game link, or paste a complete PGN. You need to be signed in so the imported game and its review can be saved to your account.
Yes. Connect a public Chess.com or Lichess profile from your Cody profile. Cody imports the available game history, and you can use Sync to check for new games.
Yes. Paste the PGN of any standard game, including over-the-board games you recorded yourself, and Cody reviews it like any other import.
Yes. A review is the start of the conversation, not the end of it. Step to any moment and ask why a move failed, what the better plan was, or how to handle the same structure next time.
Not yet. Cody focuses on standard chess for coaching, game reviews, puzzles, and the opening book.
Only you. Imported games and their reviews are saved to your account and are only available when you are signed in.
