Cody uses your information to provide and improve your chess coaching experience. We do not sell your personal information. Your private chats, imported games, and reviews are not made visible to other Cody users unless you choose to share content through a public feature.

Account information. When you create an account, we receive details such as your email address, name, profile image, authentication method, and account settings.

Chess and coaching activity. We may store positions, moves, games, imported game history, coaching conversations, feedback, preferences, and usage records needed to provide the service and keep your history available.

Connected chess accounts. If you connect a Chess.com or Lichess username, Cody retrieves the public profile, ratings, statistics, and games associated with it. Cody does not ask for or receive your password for those services.

Voice and device data. If you use voice coaching, microphone audio is sent to the selected voice provider so Cody can respond, and the resulting conversation may be saved in your coaching history. We also collect technical information such as browser type, device type, IP-derived location, diagnostics and page interactions used to understand and improve the product. Session replay is disabled in the current web and mobile apps. Avoid speaking or entering information you do not want processed as part of a coaching session.

Billing information. Payments are handled by Stripe on the web, and Apple or Google Play for native purchases. We receive transaction, subscription, and billing-status details, but Cody does not store your full payment-card number.

We use information to authenticate your account, run chess games and coaching sessions, personalize feedback, sync connected games, process payments, provide support, prevent abuse, debug failures, measure product performance, and improve Cody. We may also use aggregated or de-identified information for research and product analysis when it no longer reasonably identifies you.

Cody relies on service providers to operate the product, including Supabase for authentication and data storage, OpenAI, Google, Cerebras, Meta and ElevenLabs for AI and speech processing, Stripe, Apple and Google Play for billing, PostHog for analytics, Sentry for diagnostics, and Braintrust for answer-quality evaluation. Depending on the feature you use, relevant account, chess, conversation, audio, device, or transaction data may be sent to those providers under their data-processing terms. We may replace or add providers as the product evolves, while limiting shared information to what is reasonably needed for the service.

Before coaching sends your messages, chess context or microphone audio to AI providers, Cody asks for permission. You may decline and continue using boards and puzzles. Microphone access is a separate operating-system permission. Reset AI permission in Profile or below to withdraw permission and choose again.

Cody uses cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, preserve local sessions, maintain security, and understand product usage. Browser controls can block or clear this storage, but doing so may sign you out or prevent parts of Cody from working correctly.

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide Cody, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service. Retention periods vary by data type. Backups and security logs may remain for a limited period after deletion.

You can delete your account in Profile or at the account deletion page. This removes your Cody account and stored account content. Apple and Google subscriptions must also be cancelled through the relevant store; payment providers may retain required transaction records. You can change account preferences and disconnect a connected chess account inside Cody. Disconnecting removes the connection and games synced through it, while games imported separately may remain. To request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal information, contact us through the support page. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information, and to receive a portable copy. You may also withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing and complain to your local data-protection authority. These rights can be subject to legal exceptions.

Cody and its providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Cody is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires parental consent for a young person to use an online service, a parent or guardian must provide that consent. If you believe a child provided personal information without the required permission, contact us so we can review and remove it.

We may update this policy as Cody changes. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice when a change materially affects your rights. Questions or privacy requests can be sent through the Cody support page.
