These terms explain the rules for using Cody and what you can expect from the service.

Gültig ab August 6, 2026

Using Cody

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Cody. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use Cody on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind it to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be able to form a valid contract where you live. If you are under the age of legal majority, a parent or guardian must review and agree to these terms for you. Keep your login details secure, provide accurate account information, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity performed through your account.

AI chess coaching

Cody uses chess engines and artificial intelligence to generate coaching, explanations, annotations, and voice responses. Output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for a particular position. Treat it as educational guidance, check important analysis yourself, and use your own judgment. Cody does not guarantee rating improvement, tournament results, or uninterrupted access to any particular model, voice, or feature.

Acceptable use

You may not use Cody to:

  • break the law, infringe another person's rights, or harass or harm others;
  • cheat in live games or violate the fair-play rules of a chess platform or event;
  • probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or gain unauthorized access to Cody or its systems;
  • use automated means to scrape or extract the service except where we expressly allow it;
  • resell access, share paid credentials, or use Cody to build a competing service without written permission; or
  • submit malware, secrets, or content you do not have the right to use.

We may apply reasonable usage and safety limits to protect users, providers, and the service.

Your content and connected accounts

You keep ownership of content you submit. You give Cody a limited, worldwide license to host, process, reproduce, and display that content only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service. You confirm that you have the rights needed to provide it. When you connect a public Chess.com or Lichess profile, you authorize Cody to retrieve and process the public profile and game data associated with that username. You can disconnect it at any time.

Subscriptions, credits, and payment

Paid plans renew automatically at the price and billing interval shown at checkout until you cancel. Stripe processes payments. You authorize the applicable charges, including taxes where required. You can manage or cancel a subscription through Cody's billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period unless the checkout terms or applicable law say otherwise.

Coaching credits are a limited license to use eligible Cody features. They have no cash value, are not transferable, and may be subject to the limits shown when you receive or buy them. Except where required by law or stated at purchase, charges are non-refundable. We may change future pricing or plan features with advance notice, but changes do not retroactively alter a completed purchase.

Cody content and intellectual property

Cody and its software, design, branding, original lessons, and other service content are owned by Cody or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms give you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service. They do not transfer ownership of Cody or allow you to copy, modify, distribute, or exploit protected parts of the service beyond what the law permits.

Third-party services

Cody integrates with services such as payment, authentication, analytics, AI, and chess-data providers. Their own terms and privacy policies may apply to your direct use of those services. We are not responsible for third-party products, content, or availability, and an integration may change or stop if the provider changes its service.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Cody at any time. We may restrict or terminate access if you materially breach these terms, create risk or harm, fail to pay applicable fees, or if we must do so by law. Where practical, we will give notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including payment obligations, ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits, will continue to apply.

Service availability and warranties

Cody is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the extent the law allows. We work to keep the service reliable and secure, but we do not promise that it will always be available, error-free, or compatible with every device. We may modify, suspend, or retire features as the product evolves. Nothing in these terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Cody is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages arising from the service. Cody's total liability for claims relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid Cody in the 12 months before the claim or €100. These limits do not apply where liability cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Cody's operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts there will have jurisdiction, except that consumers may bring claims in the courts available under mandatory local consumer law. Before filing a formal claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue directly.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as Cody changes. We will revise the effective date and provide reasonable notice of material changes. Continuing to use Cody after the updated terms take effect means you accept them. Questions about these terms can be sent through the Cody support page.
